426th Night Fighter Squadron

The 426th Night Fighter Squadron, activated on January 1, 1944, at Hammer Field, California, was a key World War II unit, being one of the first trained on the Northrop P-61 Black Widow. Deployed to the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater, it protected B-29 Superfortresses from Japanese night attacks and conducted night intruder missions, operating primarily from bases in China and India until late 1945.
