773rd Bombardment Squadron
Activated in August 1943, the 773rd Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) was a key World War II unit in the 463rd Bombardment Group (15th Air Force), flying B-17 Flying Fortresses from Celone Airfield, Italy. They executed strategic bombing against Axis targets, earning two Distinguished Unit Citations (DUC) for missions against Ploesti, Romania (1944) and Berlin (1945), before inactivating in 1945.
