773rd Bomb Squadron


Activated in August 1943, the 773rd Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) was a key Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress unit in the 463rd Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force, operating from Italy in 1944–1945. It specialized in long-range strategic bombing against German industrial targets, earning two Distinguished Unit Citations for raids on Ploesti and Berlin, before later transitioning into airlift roles post-war.
